| Track One: Unto Us A Child. This song combined two different tune “snippets” I had been playing for years. I played a Samick Greg Bennett Royale Guitar for this tune. Recorded on the BR-8. [Charlie Read: solo guitar). For a PDF of this song, just click here. | ||||||

Track Two: Time is Relative. Written in August 2007. For a PDF of the chords and lyrics, please click here. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. This program is free and is probably already on your computer; if not, you can download it here.

| Track Three: All That Glitters. Started with the little “Drop D” riff and evolved from there over several months of experimentation. The recording process was tricky, using about thirty different guitar parts (using primarily a Gibson Les Paul Special), which were recorded on the BR-8 and laboriously placed into position on the Pro-Tools track window. The bass part was recorded after the guitar parts were present, and lastly the drums were added at which point the annoying “click track” was finally removed! Some of the guitar sounds were made with a Line Six POD; others using the BR-8’s built in effects. The sustained, harmonic parts in the third lead section were done on a Jackson Sustainiac guitar (nice instrument). [Charlie: guitar, bass, voices, effects; Joshua: drums] | ||||||
| Track Four: Press Toward the Mark. Written in August 2007. Played on an Alvarez AF60CK which was recorded at Soundfield along with the bass and vocals. The electric fills and solo (Epiphone Les Paul Standard) were patched in later, as were the “flute” parts (done on a Yamaha Motif XS8). [Charlie: electric and acoustic guitars, bass, keyboard, vocals; Joshua: drums] Click here for chords/lyrics. | ||||||
| Track Five: Young Man’s Fancy. This is the oldest of the songs on the CD (excluding the bits which eventually became “Unto Us A Child”), from late 2005 or early 2006. Like “All That Glitters” most of “YMF” was recorded in bits and pieces on the BR-8 (almost 20 different segments) then reassembled in Pro-Tools. I borrowed a few notes from Mendelssohn’s “Spring Song” and Vivaldi’s “Spring” for the bass solo and three-part guitar harmony section. Guitars used included a Gibson LP Special and a Taylor acoustic. [Charlie: guitars and bass; Joshua: drums] | ||||||
| Track Six: Shelby and Grace. Months before sitting down to write this song (October 2007), I had several ideas going through my mind. Often, while driving, I would come up with a few lines here and there based on personal memories, imagination, or conversations with relatives. The song is quite different from the CD’s other selections, but these lyrics wouldn’t quite fit a hard rock format! This was fun to do, and I’d like to do more songs in the same genre sometime. The basic parts were done in the studio, while the acoustic lead instruments were done on the BR-8. Click here for printable chords/lyrics. [Charlie: vocals, guitars, bass, resonator guitar, banjo; Peggy Read: backup harmonies; Joshua: drums; Claire Dent: violin] | ||||||
